When you are thinking about vibrant colours, feel good music, island time, turquoise water,… yes that’s right you are thinking about the beautiful Caribbean! Today I will share with you my favourite things about a few of the Caribbean islands that I had the chance to visit.
One of my favourite parts of the island of St Maarten has to be Marigot, on the French side. This little town is full of life and colours. Go for a stroll along the market and sip on some coconut water while you shop. They are plenty of cute little shops and if you are a fan of French patisserie, I highly recommend the SARAFINA bakery on the waterfront. Their chocolate almond croissant and their eclair au chocolate are to die for!
The Loterie Farm is another great place to spend the day with friends or family. It is located at Pic du Paradis, north of Marigot area. Over there you can hike around their beautiful tropical forest, try out their zip line or just chill by the pool and enjoy the sun!
There are two different Forts on the island, one located in Marigot (Fort Louis) and another one located in Philipsburg (Fort Amsterdam, on the Dutch side). The view from these two points is amazing, it is really worth the walk up there, especially for sunset.
Two of my favourite places to eat in St Maarten are Kokomo and Rainbow cafe. Kokomo is located on Indigo Bay and the food and the view is stunning. Rainbow cafe is located in Grand-Case, on the French side and offers some delicious seafood inspired by French and Caribbean cuisine! The view is stunning over there too as you are sitting right on Baie de Grand-Case. Make sure to go for a walk on the beach after lunch, it’s so beautiful!
If you ever visit St Lucia, you will definitely hear about its famous cocoa plantations. Yes, the chocolate over here is delicious and if you don’t believe me, go have a taste at the famous chocolate restaurant BOUCAN. Over there, everything is made with chocolate; from appetizers to desserts, drinks included. It’s definitely worth a try, especially if like me, you are a big chocolate lover!
Not too far from there are the sulphur springs (la soufriere). There you can have a bath in warm sulphuric pools, apparently really good for your skin thanks to its soothing effect. But be warned of the smell. Yes, sulphur isn’t the most attractive scent you will come across haha :p
In the evening, go have a drink at the bar of Ladera Resort, the view of the sunset there between the two Piton mountains is one of a kind!
If you are visiting St Thomas, I hardly recommend you to take a ferry for a day trip to the little island of St John. This island has a national park and its beaches are just pristine. Drive around the island and stop at the beaches you encounter along the way for a swim or snorkelling adventure. There are lots of fish to see. Or just relax on these white sand beaches. It’s truly paradise!
Last but not least, the beautiful St Barth. It’s probably one of the most popular jetset destinations. But St Barth is more than that! Go shopping around Gustavia in all the cute boutiques hidden in some little alleys and then go for a drive around the island riding one of their ATV quad bikes! On your way, stop at the top of the airport and try spotting a plane landing. Shell beach and Saline beach are two of my favourites beaches on St Barth. Go for a drink at La Plage, their Mojito is delicious! And if you want to try spotting someone famous, go for dinner at Nikki Beach, who knows who you might see there! There is so many good restaurants around the island. Eden Rock is beautiful, with stunning views on the water. And if you like Thaï food I recommend Black Ginger in Gustavia, the food is delicious and I love looking at photos on the wall, beautiful portraits.
I hope this will be helpful if you ever go visit the Caribbean islands. Over to you now. Have you ever been to the Caribbean? What is your favourite thing to do there. What is/are your favourite island(s)?
